Authors: Thomas Dahan and Andrew Seligsohn

The Engaged Civic Learning Course Design Workbook was developed for use in a two-day workshop for a cohort of Rutgers-Camden Civic Engagement Faculty Fellows. The workshop initiates a process through which each Faculty Fellow designs or re-designs a course to integrate the pedagogy of Engaged Civic Learning. Each worksheet within the workbook is tied to a session in the workshop. While the workbook thus reflects both a specific learning situation and a local institutional context, it is appropriate for adaptation to other environments. The workbook encourages instructors to develop syllabi by tailoring course activities—including civic engagement activities—and assessments to course-specific learning objectives and to broader learning objectives advanced through civic engagement.
